Buu-Van’s story is one of resilience, love, and creativity. Born on March 1, 1950, in Luangprabang, Laos, he was the youngest of four children in a Vietnamese immigrant family. This early foundation instilled in him a strong sense of culture and identity, shaping the person he would become.

In 1975, Buu-Van pursued higher education, earning an undergraduate degree in irrigation engineering from Nonthabury College of Engineering in Thailand. His academic journey was just the beginning of a life dedicated to growth and learning.

On January 29, 1977, he married his partner, Vilaykhone Connie Simuong, and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming three wonderful children: Bobby Amata, George Joe, and Valentina Cupid. This family became the cornerstone of his life, providing love and support through various challenges.

In 1984, Buu-Van became a proud naturalized citizen of the United States, embracing new opportunities and experiences. His journey took a spiritual turn in 1994 when he felt the presence of the Holy Spirit, leading him to become an ordained Christian minister in Las Vegas, Nevada. This profound experience inspired him to immerse himself in literature, sparking his passion for writing Modern American poetry.

Determined to continue his education, Buu-Van earned a graduate degree in Business Administration and Leadership Studies from California State University, San Marcos, in 2001. His commitment to learning exemplifies his belief in lifelong education.

Fluent in five languages—Laotian, Vietnamese, Thai, English, and French—Buu-Van’s linguistic abilities reflect his rich cultural heritage and connect him to diverse communities.

His contributions to art and literature have not gone unnoticed. Buu-Van is a recipient of the Asian Heritage Award for Art, Literature, and Philosophy in 2006, as well as the International Society of Poets’ Editor’s Choice Award in both 2005 and 2006.
